Bodybuilders Trail Mix Recipe

Bodybuilders Trail Mix

Bodybuilders Trail Mix

This recipe for Bodybuilders’ Trail Mix combines oats, protein powder, nuts, dehydrated apples, and raw chocolate nibs and makes a great snack. These ingredients create a balanced mix of complex carbohydrates, protein, and healthy fat, with lots of antioxidants.

I served this recently at the grand opening of Fitness Pros Wellness Center, my trainer Roc Shabazz’ gym. This trail mix was a big hit with the gym members and prospective gym members, as well as the attendees from the local press and government.

..

Ingredients

Batch Toasted Vanilla Protein Oats (see below)
½ c  Unsalted pistachio nuts
1 c Unsalted almonds, chopped
½ c Raw chocolate nibs
1 bag Dehydrated apple pieces (such as Gerber Graduates)

Mix all ingredients in a large bowl. Store the trail mix in airtight container.

Makes 25 servings, about ½ cup each.

Toasted Vanilla Protein Oats

6 c Rolled oats
4 scoops Protein powder
1/2 c Agave nectar
½ T Ground cinnamon
½ t Almond extract
¼ t Coconut extract
½ c Egg whites

Combine all ingredients in large bowl. Spread out onto a large cookie sheet that has been lined with aluminum foil and sprayed lightly with non-stick spray. Use the back of a spoon to press the oats down. Cook the mixture in a 250 degree oven for 40 minutes, or until oats are slightly browned.

These oats can be used in the Bodybuilders’ Trail Mix recipe above or with other ingredients such as coconut, other dehydrated fruits, or yogurt bites from Gerber Graduates’. Kids also enjoy mixing up their own trail mix with min-chocolate chips and semi-sweet mini M&Ms for baking.

Try the oats to add crunch to oatmeal, yogurt, pancakes, or even on top of a salad. Get creative and use these oats as a base to make your own cereal.
