This video segment is featured on the navigation bar of this site. BUT if you haven't watched it yet, you should; your jaw will drop.

On this segment from diet.com, compare the appearance of a 3 month old slice of potato and some McDonald’s french fries that are 4 years old. The potato is wrinkled, dry, and pathetic looking while the french fries still appear like they were served up half an hour ago.

Originally served in a Happy Meal, the four year old hamburger has no visible signs of rot or mold. No preservatives have been added; it has been wrapped in its original paper and stored in a lunch box. Yet, it still looks much like it did four years ago.

But once these solids are processed and the empty calories from sugar and fat are added that chunk of heavenly, mouth-watering chocolate is back to just being junk food again.
Based on the amount of pizza consumed in this country, pizza is more American than apple pie!

Here in the fast-food nation that is America, pizzas are made with high-gluten flour, and are topped with low-water content tomato sauce complete with added sugar and salt, and the toppings typically include a lot high-fat cheese and meats. As many Americanized pizzas are very high in salt and fat, concerns have been raised about the negative effect on people's health. Some pizza chains have recently been criticized for creating pizzas with twice the daily recommended amount of sodium for an adult.

Here's a clean eating idea for pizza that gives you a tasty, crispy, thin-crust pizza without all that salt, fat, and sugar.

Simple yet classic, pesto sauce is traditionally prepared with a mortar and pestle using a combination of basil, crushed garlic, parsley, grated hard cheese, pine nuts, and a little olive oil. Although you may associate pesto sauce as a sauce for pasta, a thin coating of this sauce can breathe new life into flatbread or cooked chicken breast or fish.
I was inspired to make a clean version of sweet and sour cucumbers when dining at a Chinese restaurant. I sampled one and found that they were really tasty but I knew they were covered with sugar, something that happens with a lot of ethnic foods that have been "Americanized." Cleaned up without the extra sugar, these make a great appetizer or a snack that will really fill you up.

These cukes are really handy when you are trying to control your portions and yet still crave food. You know... those times when you just need to have something. Cucumbers are mostly water; high-water content foods make your belly feel really full. This snack will fill you up while only sneaking in 38 calories, so eat up to fill up.

This recipe for Bodybuilders' Trail Mix combines oats, protein powder, nuts, dehydrated apples, and raw chocolate nibs and makes a great snack. These ingredients create a balanced mix of complex carbohydrates, protein, and healthy fat, with lots of antioxidants.

I served this recently at the grand opening of Fitness Pros Wellness Center, my trainer Roc Shabazz' gym. It was a big hit with the gym members and prospective gym members, as well as the attendees from the local press and government.

Eating clean is a lifestyle with endless possibilities of what you can eat and how you can prepare it. A clean diet includes a huge range of "clean" foods and is very inclusive, rather than exclusive.

By definition, a clean food is a food that either: a) grew on a stalk/tree/bush/vine/in the dirt from an identifiable plant, or b) came directly from an identifiable animal or plant. Most clean foods don't come in boxes and don't contain any added sugars, flavors, or artificial ingredients.

With any diet, what to eat is important. This article outlines what to eat and why you should eat it.
